45 million Americans suffer from regular headaches. If you’re one of them, you’ve probably already tried traditional methods to get headache relief. Often this involves taking a medication that is supposed to eliminate the pain and minimize swelling.
Unfortunately, none of these solutions provide permanent relief that addresses the root of the problem. It’s unlikely your headache is coming from a lack of Tylenol!
More patients looking to Chiropractic for headache relief
In the past few decades, more and more patients have begun to seek alternative forms of therapy for headaches. One form of treatment that is very promising for physical as well as other types of pain is chiropractic.
This form of alternative care has been used successfully for over a hundred years and has become a regular part of healthcare systems worldwide. In fact, it is estimated that 35 million Americans visit a chiropractor annually.
At school, chiropractors study human anatomy in great detail, just like other medical professionals. As well as detailed study of anatomy and physiology, their training primarily revolves around the diagnosis and treatment of misalignments in the spine. These are known as subluxations.
These subluxations irritate nerve tissue that can affect organ function, soft tissue like muscle, ligaments and tendons. This can eventually manifest as other health problems if not treated.
Once the nerves are disrupted pain will result. While it usually manifests itself as physical pain, this is not always the case. In some instances, the person may experience difficulties with sleep or other routine habits.
What will my Austin Chiropractor do?
On the first visit with the chiropractor, we will look at current and previous health issues. We will listen attentively and make an assessment, including determining what types of treatment will best suit you.
In the case of headaches, we often find a misalignment (subluxation) in the neck. This may be accompanied by muscles that are tight in the neck and shoulders. Pressure on the nerves may cause sharp stabbing pains or there may be a continual dull throb in the region.
The chiropractor will assess the area and then move forward with treatment known as a chiropractic adjustment in order to relieve the pressure and pain. Headache relief is usually felt quickly.
However, chiropractors don’t just focus on relieving symptoms but rather correcting the problem; therefore, additional treatments will follow to help correct the cause.
If you need further help with your headaches or are ready to see how beneficial chiropractic care can be to your overall health, please give us a call so that you can schedule an appointment with our Doctor of Chiropractic.
How our Austin Chiropractor is different
You may well have seen a chiropractor before. Some of our patients haven’t always had the best experience, or they don’t like the idea of the twisting and cracking involved with regular chiropractic. Upper cervical chiropractic techniques, such as Blair or NUCCA , are a very gentle and specific way to realign the bones of the spine and relieve pressure on spinal nerves. Our Blair chiropractor in Austin says it’s a very different approach to what most people think of, when they think of ‘chiropractic’!
